Premiers Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an initiative of the NSW State government. It aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and to enable students to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
The Premier's Reading Challenge is available for all NSW students in Kindergarten–Year 9. Participation by schools and students is voluntary. K–2 Challenge - students experience 30 books by reading independently, sharing the reading or listening to someone else read the books to them. Of the 30 books, at least 25 must come from PRC booklists and a maximum of five choice books can be included. 3-6 Challenge – students read 20 books independently. At least 15 must be selected from the appropriate booklists or above and the other five can be personal choices or from PRC lists.
The Challenge runs from 1 February to 1 September each year. All students who successfully complete the Challenge will receive a Premier's Reading Challenge certificate and their name will be published on an Honour Roll.
